The Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and the Forestry Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) have joined forces to launch an innovative Community Outreach Programme titled “Biodiversity Watch.” This initiative marks a significant step towards involving the community in understanding and preserving biodiversity.
This pilot programme was officially inaugurated on September 25, 2023, at the Tropical Biodiversity Centre (TBC), located within the Forestry Department in Sg Liang, Belait District. The event signified a crucial collaboration between academic institutions and government bodies, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in environmental conservation.
“Biodiversity Watch” is designed to encourage the participation of the general public, especially those affiliated with government and non-government agencies, as well as higher education institutions. The programme aims to foster a deeper understanding of biodiversity among participants and enhance their skills in environmental observation and conservation.
