Mr. Farid Said Mohammed, a second-year Geology student under the guidance of Dr. Afroz Shah within the Geosciences discipline, has been awarded the esteemed Geological Society of America (GSA) J. David Lowell Field Camp Scholarship-2024, comprising a monetary endowment of 2000 USD. His selection from a competitive pool of applicants this year is a source of profound pride for our institution.
Furthermore, in recognition of his academic prowess, GSA’s partner, Brunton, has generously offered an additional token of distinction: a new Gold Standard Transit, encased in leather and embellished with a special 130th-anniversary insignia, bearing his name—a supplement valued at $620 USD.
Mr. Farid will embark upon an endeavor of outcrop-based structural field mapping in designated locales within Brunei and Miri, Malaysia, under the joint auspices of Professor Prasanna Mohan Viswanathan, Head of the Department of Applied Sciences at Curtin University, Miri, and Dr. Afroz Ahmad Shah, Program Leader of Geosciences and the course coordinator for the Geological Field Mapping course at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The resultant data gleaned from the fieldwork shall furnish the foundation for a scholarly manuscript delineating the intricacies of outcrop-based structural mapping within the fault zones prevalent in the region.
